NJ Energy Bill Watch Program
We know that managing energy use and costs is important to maintaining your household budget. As part of NJ Bill S3620, which requires utility companies to establish an “Energy Bill Watch” program, PSE&G is sending email alerts to help customers better understand their monthly usage and expected costs. Customers can also opt-in to receive text alerts.
PSE&G residential customers who have a smart meter installed at their home and an email address on file will automatically receive email alerts as part of this program. Customers will receive these alerts after the 10th and 20th day of their monthly billing cycle to let them know how much electricity they have used and the estimated cost for that usage.
Energy Bill Watch alerts are just one more way that PSE&G is helping you save energy and money. For more ways to save, visit pseg.com/SaveEnergy.
Energy Bill Watch FAQs
-
As part of NJ Bill S3620 – Energy Bill Watch – we are required to automatically enroll qualified customers in email alerts to advise you of your electricity usage and estimated costs after the 10th and 20th days of your monthly billing cycle.
-
After the 10th day of your monthly billing cycle, you will receive an email and/or text message alert letting you know how much electricity you used and the estimated cost for the first 10 days of your billing cycle. After the 20th day of your monthly billing cycle, you will receive a second email and/or text message alert letting you know how much electricity you used and the estimated cost for the first 20 days of your billing cycle.
-
If you do not wish to receive these alerts, you can unsubscribe at any time from the unsubscribe link in the alert email. You can also unsubscribe by logging into My Account at pseg.com, selecting MyMeter, and clicking “Alerts” where you can manage your settings. You can also sign up to receive alerts via text message or enroll additional contacts in Energy Bill Watch alerts.
-
Energy Bill Watch alerts are for residential customers who have a smart meter installed at their property. The smart meter must be fully operational, meaning it is transmitting your usage data to us daily.
-
Customers using a third party supplier will see estimates based on PSE&G’s Basic Generation Service (BGS) rate. Customers with a net meter will see estimates for consumption only, excluding generation.
-
A displayed cost of $0.00 indicates that your electric rate is not included in Energy Bill Watch calculations.
-
You may not have been auto enrolled for the following reasons:
- You do not have a fully operational smart meter installed.
- You are not a residential customer.
- We do not have a valid email address on file for your account.
-
In addition to the Energy Bill Watch alerts, you can also sign up for:
- Usage Threshold Alert - Receive a notification email and/or text when the estimated cost of usage exceeds a set dollar amount you choose.
- Weekly Usage Summary – Receive a notification email at the end of each week with your average use for the week.
You can sign up for both of these notifications by accessing MyMeter and clicking “Alerts.”
-

Electric usage is calculated using the same information that’s available to you in MyMeter, so the kilowatt hours (kWh) that you see reflect your actual, up-to-date consumption. The cost, however, is an estimate that is based on the usage and the most current rate information.
-
The estimated cost does not include items like prior unpaid balances, payment plans, participation in the Equal Payment Plan, bill assistance programs, and special discounts like community solar. The estimated cost only includes your current usage and the most current rate information.
-
If you have multiple electric meters at your address, you will receive one alert that contains usage and cost information for all meters.
