Start, Stop, or Transfer Service

You can start service at a new address, stop service, or transfer service online.

Start Service

New to PSE&G’s service area or adding an account at a new address? To start service, you’ll need:

  • The address where you want to start service*  
  • Phone number 
  • Email address 
  • The date you’d like to start service
  • Social Security number
  • A security deposit may be required for a new customer

If there is a previous balance of $1,500 or more at your new address, you will need to visit a Customer Service Center in order to start service in your name. You will need:  

- Valid ID

- Proof of previous address (utility bill, cable bill, tax refund, etc)

- Lease, Deed, or Eviction notice (for landlords)

Business customers: If you’re new to PSE&G’s service area, please call the Business Solutions Center at 1-855-249-PSEG (7734) and have your Business Tax ID Number handy. If you’re a current customer, please refer to the directions on this page to add an account at a new address, stop or transfer service.

 

Stop Service

Moving or no longer need PSE&G service? To stop service, you’ll need:

  • The date you’d like to stop service
  • Address to send your final bill

You can provide a final meter reading by entering a reading online or submitting a picture of your meter.

Need a letter of credit from PSE&G?
To request a letter of credit please email, letterofcredit@pseg.com including the following information:

  • The name of the utility where you will be starting service 
  • The new utility’s email address 
  • The PSE&G account holder’s name 
  • Your PSE&G service address 
  • Your PSE&G account number 
  • Your new service address 
  • Your new utility account number 
 

Transfer Service

Need to stop service at your current PSE&G address and start service at a new address in PSE&G’s service area? You’ll need:

  • Current address where you’d like to stop service
  • New address where you’d like to start service
  • The dates you’ll be stopping service and starting service at the new address 

Security Deposits

A security deposit may be required on a new account.  The amount of the deposit will be based on the rate being billed at the premise.

Once the security deposit has been paid, it accrues interest. The security deposit and interest are then held until they are eligible to be returned to the customer after either 1) a positive payment history of 12 months (for residential customers) or 24 months (for business customers), or 2) the account is closed.
