Start Service, Stop Service, or Move Service

If you need to start, stop, or move service for your electric and gas, please click here to get started.

Start Service

If you are a new PSE&G customer, welcome! You can open a new gas and/or electric account by calling us at 1-800-436-7734 or by visiting a PSE&G Customer Service Center.

You will need:
  • Your new physical address (not a P.O. Box)
  • Your prior address. Proof of prior address may be required in some cases so please have one of the following available:

          - A notarized lease, deed, or letter from the prior landlord

          - A current auto insurance policy

          - A bank statement issued within the last 60 days

          - A credit card statement issued within the last 60 days

          - A letter of credit worthiness from a utility

  • Social Security or Tax ID Number
  • Primary Phone Number
  • Email Address
  • Service Start-Date
  • Mailing Address (if different from physical address)
  • An Authorized Person other than yourself  if applicable (spouse/roommate)

If you are a current PSE&G customer, you can start service at a new address, stop service, or transfer service by logging in to My Account or calling us at 1-800-436-7734.


Stop Service

Moving away? You will need the following information:

    • The date you are moving out
    • The mailing address where we should send your final bill

If you have not had an actual meter reading in the past few months it will be necessary to schedule a meter-reading appointment. Please give us notice of at least two business days before your move-out date.


Move Service

If you are an existing PSE&G customer and would like to transfer service to another property in our service area you must stop service at your current address and start it at your new address. Log in to My Account or call us at 1-800-436-PSEG (7734).

Security Deposits

A security deposit may be required on a new account.  The amount of the deposit will be based on the rate being billed at the premise.

Once the security deposit has been paid, it accrues interest. The security deposit and interest are then held until they are eligible to be returned to the customer after either 1) a positive payment history of 12 months (for residential customers) or 24 months (for business customers), or 2) the account is closed.
